It’s been over 100 episodes since The Immortals watched a film where Natalie Wood plays a damned teenager so they’re past due! They watch Splendor in the Grass and then return to Pedro’s childhood by listening to Aerosmith. They also figure out exactly where the Rocky Mountains are as they almost focus on John Denver and then Austin complains about how long Anzacs was. IT’S GOOD STUFF AND YOU SHOULD LISTEN TO ALL OF IT.
McCabe & Mrs. Miller is always written that way to highlight that the relationship between the two titular characters is a business one. It’s like calling a production duo Lugar & Mr. Martindale. However, that bond is tested this episode as Eric is under the weather and they record the show in different rooms. Is it a metaphor for how these two survive a Robert Altman anti-western or does it end up a perfect piece of art? No middle ground.
The Immortals travel back to the Old West and find it’s not what they’re used to when they watch McCabe & Mrs. Miller. Thankfully they get warmed up with some Pyromania from Def Leppard, they’re told they’re special by The Pretenders, as well as revisiting some capers, find a magical nickel and talk about the crimes of Scotland. Also will The Immortal’s plan succeed to defeat their current intern? Get excited!
